If the outside of the rifle is any indication of the inside you should be fine. However you want to be certain to remove the bolt from the receiver and look down the bore to ensure there is no rust or damage in there. Also if you can take the complete barreled action out of the stock I would do that and look at the metal condition under the wood stock. You might, although I suspect you will not, find rust there. Lastly you want to do a safety check.
Place the safety in the on position and press the trigger - nothing should happen. Place the safety off and press the trigger - you should hear a "click", - the firing pin being released and moving forward. If the seller will let you test fire the rifle before purchase, certainly do that.
Shoot rounds at the distance you plan on doing the majority of your hunting at and see what kind of bullet grouping you get. I took a look at the linked to rifle. G un V alues B oard. I want to check the manufacturing year of the Remington Sr By Faheem, 4 years ago on Remington. Quick links. I listed it for him on an online auction and everyone asks "What is the serial number? Any advice?
Front receiver ring left side as gun is pointing away from you I have heard some folks saying that they have the serial number on the inside of their receiver somewhere but I never seen one with that being the case. The bolt should have the serial etched on the body of the bolt visible when you pull the bolt out of the receiver.
In any case serial won't tell you exactly when the gun was manufactured any how. Just in front of the receiver on left side should be 2 or 3 tiny letters on the barrel , this may have some other symbols on either or both ends like a star ,or a squiggly , or lightning bolt looking thing a ma bob , but the 2or 3 letters is the barrel code that will tell month and year of manufacture example, XYY or ADD or something to that effect.
I did notice the symbols you mentioned, it has a club and a diamond like playing cards. But no serial. Post by Rem » Fri Mar 12, am The serial number is on the left side front receiver ring or the very early made ones like the first 30, or so made in had the number inside the left bolt locking lug channel above the follower.
Any interest? Example AE below. Left side, rear of barrel, as in A E on the one listed. Don't need both. Last edited by Rem on Fri Jan 14, am, edited 1 time in total. Post by Guest » Wed Jan 12, pm xx has CE stamped into the lower left corner, visible without removing the stock.
